Week 4 (for the June 21 Connect Meeting)

Readings:
1. Text: Read Chapter 12 Learning Together Virtually.
2. Read the Review of WebQuest Research or Learning from WebQuests (choose one or both to read).
They are located on the Readings and Downloads page

Activities (Please have these posted by June 21)

1. After reading the text Chapter 12 and the research articles about WebQuests (either one or both of the articles), find a WebQuest suitable for students in the area that you teach, or would like to teach--from either a Google search or from WebQuest.org--and evaluate it from the point of a teacher who may want to use it in his or classroom.

How to evaluate it? Use this rubric. Score the WQ using the rubric and add a two or three sentence evaluation for each category. Use information from either article or the text to back up your evaluation. Post your summary on the Homework page of your website.

Finally, would WebQuests be a suitable addition to Chapter 12? Find any two sections that discuss virtual learning and collaboration and make a case either for or against why WebQuests should or should not be included in the chapter. I intend to take your answers and send them to Clark and Mayer as feedback for the next version of their text. Your answers should relate to the points they raise in the chapter. Post this two page response to the Homework page.

2. Research article followup:

a. If you read Learning from WebQuests by Gaskill, McNulty and Brooks, please do the following:
Locate two of the research studies from the CCSU research library (not summaries but actual research studies) mentioned in the article and evaluate whether or not the authors correctly used each article as referenced in their research report. Put your answer and elaboration in one page and post to your Homework page. When you find an article you can post it to the Readings, Links . . . page so others in the class can use it as well. The History page will tell who posted the study.

b. If you read What We Know About the Impacts of WebQuests: A Review of Research, please do the following: Locate one of the research studies from the CCSU research library (not summaries but actual research studies) mentioned in the article and evaluate whether or not the authors correctly used the article as referenced in their research report. Put your answer and elaboration in one page and post to your Homework page. When you find an article you can post it to the Readings, Links . . . page so others in the class can use it as well. The History page will tell who posted the study.

3. Create a Feedback page on your website using Google Docs and embed that in your website so that I can give you feedback each week on your work.

Use the Week 4 Discussions to make announcements or ask questions of the class about this week's work.
